Record Store Day was officially this past weekend, but we decided any day could and should be record store day. So on May 17th Iron and Wine will release a split 12" featuring recent sessions from both bands from the Daytrotter vaults. This 12" is limited to 1000 copies and is being offered exclusively thru mom and pop records stores around the country, along with The Rough Trade shop in London should you live across the pond. If you do not live in any of those places there will be a select number of copies available through our webstore, on The Low Anthem's and Daytrotter websites and possibly at shows if there are any left!
We're trying our best to make it available to our fans that really want it and cater as much as possible to our friends in retail.
If you already downloaded the session from Daytrotter then you already have a good idea what to expect from this release. However we have went out of our way to try and make sure it's worth your time and money. The sessions were mastered for vinyl by the fine folks at Chicago Mastering Services (use them) and we also had our friends at Dexterity Press (i.e. Jeff Mueller from Rodan, June of 44, The Shipping News) print up a beautiful letter press insert that you'll find inside. We've also got something cooking to include by street date, but we're gonna hold off on sharing that until we're sure it comes together.
This is the first ever Daytrotter session to be issued on vinyl and only the second self release for Iron and Wine. The first being the limited run of tour EP cd's that were sold on that first Ugly Casanova tour. Self releasing things here and there is an idea we've been kicking around so keep an eye out for more things in the future.
PreOrders for Iron & Wine's quantity of the Daytrotter Split LPs will go onsale on Monday, May 9, 2011. Keep an eye on the ironandwine.com for additional info and links.
